History

Bristol Dyslexia Centre was founded over 30 years ago by Pat Jones to support pupils in mainstream education. Her work was awarded by her gaining an OBE.

Some pupils needed full time educational support and so Belgrave School was set up to provide for this additional need.

Both organisations used to be situated in the same buildings, but in December 2020 the school moved across the city to it’s new site in Withywood. The Bristol Dyslexia Centre continues to provide specialist assessment and resources for the school. Pat Jones remains the proprietor. The Headteacher is Lynette Brown.

Nessy Software, an educational resource provider for dyslexic children, was also established as a sister organisation and supports pupils, families and schools throughout the UK and the US.

As the years have progressed the school has become increasingly recognised as a specialist provider for SpLDs and has a larger percentage each year funded by three local authorities. The school has to abide by stringent procurement, evaluation and evaluation procedures by these local authorities.
